Dubai’s flagship app contest has been retired in favour of something bigger. The Create AI Agents Championship was launched on Wednesday by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, at the awards ceremony for the third Create Apps Championship at Emirates Towers Boulevard, The National reports.

The new competition moves the focus from building apps to building autonomous AI agents: systems designed to handle real tasks and solve practical problems with limited human input. Total prize money exceeds Dh2.5 million.

Four categories, Dh550,000 grants and a Dh1 million top prize

Entries compete in four categories: Best Societal AI Agent, Best Personal AI Agent, Best Business AI Agent, and Best Youth AI Agent, the last of these open to entrants under 21. Each category winner receives a grant of Dh550,000, and one overall winner takes the AI Agent of the Year title with Dh1 million.

The championship is open to people of all ages and backgrounds anywhere in the world. Ideas, early prototypes and minimum viable products can all be entered, but fully commercialised solutions are not eligible, which keeps the contest aimed at work that still needs support to grow.

Registration, workshops and the Digital Academy

Registration is now open. Through November and December, entrants can join workshops and a Digital Academy offering advanced training courses and mentorship sessions, giving teams time to turn a rough idea into a testable agent before judging.

The Create Apps winners it replaces

At the same ceremony, the final Create Apps Championship winners were honoured. POP by Kwelio, a medication-adherence app built around behavioural science and predictive analytics, took both Longevity App of the Year and Dubai’s App of the Year. The handover underlines the shift: Dubai’s developer contests are moving from phone apps to agents that act on a user’s behalf.
