Arrivals: immigration, baggage, customs
The arrivals flow at DXB is refreshingly quick:
- Immigration: many nationalities get a free visa on arrival (30 or 90 days depending on passport). Eligible travellers — including UAE/GCC nationals, residents and many visa-on-arrival visitors with biometric passports — can use the Smart Gates and clear immigration in seconds rather than queuing.
- Baggage reclaim: follow the signs; the halls are large but well signed. Trolleys are free.
- Customs: walk through the green channel unless you have something to declare.
Free WiFi is available throughout the airport, so you can message your hotel or call a ride the moment you land. You may also be offered a free tourist SIM card at immigration — handy for maps and ride-hailing on day one.

- Currency: exchange desks and ATMs sit in the arrivals halls. Rates at the airport are workable but rarely the best — exchange a small amount and use cards or ATMs in the city.
